Bangladesh Army is organising what it claims will be the first-ever international marathon in the country on the occasion of the birth centenary of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Some 200 leading athletes from Morocco, Kenya, Ukraine, Belarus, France (Elite runners), South Asian countries including hosts Bangladesh (South Asian runners) will participate in two categories of competitions--full marathon and half marathon.

The full marathon will begin from Banani Army Stadium at 6 am while half marathon will start from the same place at 6:40 am and both will conclude at Hatirjheel area in the city.
The full marathon measures a distance of 42.195 kilometers, and the half marathon of 21.097 km.

Director of IT Directorate of Army Headquarters Brigadier General AKM Aminul Haque disclosed these at a press conference at the Dutch-Bangla auditorium of Bangladesh Olympic Association on Tuesday.

The elite champion will receive a prize money of $15000 while the champion of South Asia and Bangladesh will get Tk 5,00,000.
