State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir on Sunday expressed confidence that Bangladesh-China relations would continue to grow in the coming days.

He expressed the confidence when Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen paid a farewell call on the State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The State Minister appreciated the Ambassador’s role in strengthening Bangladesh-China relations.

He said that the Ambassador’s work in Bangladesh had received tremendous visibility and appreciated his contribution to the successful visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to China.

The State Minister mentioned that during Ambassador Wen’s tenure, Bangladesh-China relations have been elevated to a Shared Community level and a number of mechanisms, including State Minister-level 2+2 mechanism, are set to commence.

The Ambassador said it had been a great honour to serve in Bangladesh for three years and nine months.

He congratulated Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the United Nations General Assembly, describing it as a proud moment for Bangladesh.

The Ambassador reaffirmed that China would continue to support Bangladesh in its development journey.

He also informed that the Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) is eager to undertake a visit to Bangladesh at the end of this year.

He noted that the Minister has strong connections with Bangladesh, as his father had served as China’s Ambassador to Bangladesh and had presented his credentials to President Ziaur Rahman.

He thanked the Ambassador for his service and wished him success in his new assignment.

He said that their paths would cross again and expressed that Bangladesh was delighted to have had him serving in the country.
