The Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu celebrated the 55th anniversary of the Great Independence and National Day with due solemnity and festive spirit on Thursday.
The day began with the hoisting of the national flag at the Embassy premises by Bangladesh Ambassador Md. Shafiqur Rahman, followed by a special prayer for the salvation of the martyrs of the Liberation War and for the continued peace and progress of Bangladesh.
A discussion session on the significance of the Great Independence and National Day was also held, during which messages from the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read aloud. Members of the Bangladesh community in Nepal actively participated in the session.
In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Rahman paid rich tribute to the three million martyrs, 200,000 women, and all heroic freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices for Bangladesh’s independence.
He recalled the history, essence, and spirit of the day, emphasizing the importance of unity under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to build a Bangladesh free from discrimination and injustice, ensuring democracy, peace, and prosperity.
He urged the community to contribute to the nation’s progress from their respective positions.
