Dhaka, Jul 14 (UNB) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said Bangladesh always favours resolving any issue with its neighbouring countries through talks.
"We’re always in favour of holding dialogue to mitigate any problem. We’ve resolved many issues like land boundary disputes through this process," she said when visiting Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh met her at her official residence Ganobhaban.
PM's Additional Press Secretary M Nazrul Islam briefed reporters after the meeting.
He said the Prime Minister mentioned that Bangladesh strongly condemns terrorism and violent extremism in its all forms.
"In line with its zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and violent extremism, Bangladesh doesn’t allow its territory to be used by any terrorist individual, group and entity against any state or people," the Prime Minister said.
About the county’s socioeconomic development during the Awami League government, she said the government has attached utmost importance to the development of rural areas. "The Father of the Nation was the leader of the common people. He always wanted development of the general people. We’re accomplishing his unfinished works," she said.
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh achieved 7.78 percent GDP growth as the main target of the government is to build a self-reliant golden Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Recalling her meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister described her last meeting in Kolkata as a fruitful one.
Indian Home Minister Rajnath put emphasis on a regional dialogue for eliminating terrorism and militancy from this region. "But, for non-cooperation by some of the countries, it is not taking place," he said.
He mentioned that the cordial relation between Bangladesh and India is now at its peak.
Rajnath highly appreciated the socioeconomic development of Bangladesh, especially the achievement of 7.78 percent GDP, under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. "Probably, this is the highest and fastest GDP growth in the world," he said.
Special Secretary (Border Management) of Indian Home Ministry Braj Raj Sharma, Bangladesh's Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Home Secretary (Public Security Division) Mostafa Kamal Uddin, Home Secretary (Protection Service Division) Farid Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, IGP Javed Patwari and Principal Secretary M Nojibur Rahman were, among others, present during the meeting.
