The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) on Tuesday distributed non-food items (NFIs) to 700 waterlogged households in Kalshi, Mirpur, as part of its ongoing humanitarian response to support communities affected by prolonged waterlogging.
The assistance was distributed by Prof. Dr. Md. Rafiqul Kabir, Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, in the presence of Dr. Abu Md. Mofakhkharul Islam (Rana), Treasurer, Faruk Uddin Bhuyan, Board Member, and Dr. Jamil Ahmed, Board Member of the Board of Managing Committee.
The distributed relief items included essential non-food items to help affected families meet their immediate humanitarian needs.
Speaking at the programme, Prof. Dr. Md. Rafiqul Kabir reaffirmed the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society's commitment to standing beside vulnerable communities during emergencies.
He said, "The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society has always stood beside people in every disaster, and we will continue to do so in the future. Our humanitarian work is carried out with complete sincerity and without any self-interest. Today, we have come to support 700 waterlogged families, and we will continue providing assistance in the coming days. Across the country, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is carrying out relief distribution activities for people affected by disasters."
He further announced that members of the BDRCS Board of Managing Committee would soon visit the Chattogram region. He said, "We will travel to Chattogram for four days to support waterlogged communities in four affected districts. Our volunteers have been working since the first day of the flooding."
The Vice Chairman also appreciated the government's ongoing efforts in responding to the disaster. He said, "The present government has taken a humanitarian approach to responding to the crisis, and the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society will continue working alongside the government's efforts to ensure that assistance reaches affected communities. We have also received encouraging assurances from the Ministry of Health regarding continued collaboration in humanitarian response."
The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society continues to monitor the evolving flood and waterlogging situation across the country and remains prepared to provide life-saving assistance through its nationwide network of volunteers, units, and emergency response teams.
