The shredded notes will be removed by the city corporation, said a Bangladesh Bank press release.
It said that as per Bangladesh Bank Order 1972, the central bank has been destroying dilapidated and obsolete bank notes from the market. It has also been printing, issuing and distributing the bank notes.
Now, the Bangladesh Bank is withdrawing more torn, defective, obsolete and dilapidated notes from the market as part of its policy to introduce clean bank notes.
As a result, the quantity of the torn, dirty and dilapidated notes has increased compared to the past.
Against this backdrop, the Bangladesh Bank decided to destroy the dilapidated notes with shredding machines instead of burning them and remove the shredded pieces through city corporation, said the BB press release.
