Dhaka, Sept 12 (UNB) – After long 48 years of the country’s independence, members of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) have removed Pakistan’s name from all the border pillars erected after the partition of the Indian subcontinent.
The border pillars contain the name of the sovereign Bangladesh instead of Pakistan (Pak), said a BGB media release.
After the separation of India-Pakistan in 1947, more than 8,000 border pillars were installed containing Ind/Pak-India-Pakistan.
The pillars were erected in the border areas of Satkhira, Jashore, Chuadanga, Kushtia, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sunamganj, Sylhet, Brahmanbaria, Cumilla and Chattogram.
BGB completed the work with its own fund following the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
