“Our independence and sovereignty are at stake due to the government’s failure. Over 10 lakh Rohingyas took shelter in Bangladesh as Myanmar has driven them out through ethnic cleansing. Myanmar wants to eliminate Rohingyas, but our government couldn’t register any strong protest against it,” he said.
Speaking at a rally of professionals, the BNP leader further said, “Gambia has now filed a case with The International Court of Justice, but our government couldn’t take any step in this regard to create genuine international pressure on Myanmar to take back Rohingyas.”
He also alleged that Bangladesh government is maintaining very good relations with Myanmar and giving the country various supports.
Bangladesh Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad organised the programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club, demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
On Monday, Gambia, on behalf of the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), filed a case with the International Court of Justice against Myanmar on charge of committing genocide against its Rohingya Muslim minority.
Fakhrul claimed that their chairperson Khaleda Zia is critically ill and her some organs have virtually got paralysed. “But the government-backed hospital’s director has said she’s fine. A false explanation was given about our leader’s health condition and the director should bot put on trial for it.”
He alleged that the government is not making public the report on Khaleda’s health condition given by the medical board formed for providing treatment to her.
The BNP leader urged the government to make public the report immediately as people want to know about it.
Describing the government as a fascist one, he alleged that it has established a reign of terror across the country with its repressive acts so that people cannot raise their voice against its ‘misdeeds’.
Fakhrul said the country’s people will only suffer and get affected badly if the current government stays in power for a longtime without people’s ‘mandate’. “The prices of all the essentials go beyond the purchasing capacity of people.”
He called upon people from all walks of life and all the democratic and patriotic forces to get united to wage a strong movement against the government and force it to hold a fresh and credible election under a neutral administration and the Election Commission.
The BNP leader expressed deep shock over the loss of huge lives in a train accident in Brahmanbaria and wished early recovery of those injured.
“Road accidents are happening every day killing many people, but there’s no accountability. This government has completely failed to deliver as it has lost control over everything,” he added.
