A newly paved road in Ahalia adjacent to the playground in Sector 14 of Uttara was dug up again on Wednesday, just a day after the final asphalt work was completed, following foul-smelling water seeping through the fresh surface.

Locals said the road had been under renovation for around four to five months. The final layer of asphalt was laid on Monday night.

But by Tuesday morning, residents noticed foul-smelling water emerging through the newly paved road, apparently due to problems with the drainage work.

The smell soon spread across the surrounding area, causing discomfort among people living nearby.

By Wednesday morning, workers returned to the site and began removing sections of the newly laid asphalt to address the problem.

Locals alleged that the problem was caused by substandard work and inadequate supervision during the renovation.

They expressed frustration over having to see a newly completed road being broken up within just 24 hours and questioned why the drainage problem had not been identified before the final asphalt was laid.

Residents urged the authorities to ensure proper supervision and quality control in future infrastructure projects. They also called for road and drainage works to be completed efficiently and in a coordinated manner to avoid unnecessary public inconvenience and wastage of resources.

The incident has also raised concerns among locals about the quality of infrastructure work in the area and the need for stronger monitoring during project implementation.
