The chief of a probe body formed by the Police Headquarters to look into the namaz-e-janaza attended by thousands of people in Sarail upazila visited the spot on Sunday afternoon.
Iqbal Hossain, additional deputy inspector general of police (Chattogram range), went to Bertala Madrasa and talked to locals over the incident.
“We’re investigating how such a mass gathering took place in a short time and we’ll submit the report by April 23,” he said while talking to reporters after the visit.
On Saturday morning, thousands of people attended the janaza of a religious scholar at Bertala village in Sarail upazila ignoring the risk of coronavirus transmission.

Later, the Police Headquarters withdrew officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station Md Shahadat Hossain and formed the probe body to look into it.
