Dhaka, Sept 19 (UNB) – The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved separate proposals to import a total of 2 lakh metric tons (mt) of fertiliser at a cost of Tk 544.37 crore.
The approval was given at a meeting of the committee held with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.
Of the bulk import, 1.75 mt of urea will be brought from international suppliers while 25,000 mt of DAP under the government-to-government agreement.
As per the proposal, private firm Proton Traders Ltd will supply 75,000 mt urea through Chittagong port at a cost of Tk 224.17 crore while another 75,000 mt of urea will be supplied by the same firm through Mongla port at a cost of Tk 226.88 crore.
The remaining 25,000 mt of DAP fertiliser will be imported from Morocco’s state fertiliser company OCP under a contract with state-owned Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC). The import will cost Tk 83.22 crore.
