A case has been filed against 22 leaders and activists of the Awami League (AL) and its student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League, under the Special Powers Act for allegedly holding secret meetings and distributing leaflets in Barguna with the intent to disrupt law and order.

Besides, police have arrested four individuals in connection with the case.

Barguna Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) said that the accused, all linked to the Awami League's organizational units, were attempting to create unrest by distributing leaflets in the town.

“We were able to arrest four of them immediately and efforts are ongoing to arrest the others,” the OC said.

According to sources, Humayun Kabir, office secretary of Barguna District Jubo Dal, lodged the complaint with Barguna Police Station on Tuesday. The complaint alleges that the accused had planned to sabotage the International Mother Language Day program and damage the image of the state.

The complaint states that on Monday at 2:15pm, a group of 22 named individuals and around 70–80 unidentified persons gathered on the paved road in front of the Pharmacy Patti Awami League office in Barguna.

They reportedly distributed leaflets, marched and demonstrated to express their stance, allegedly with the intention of destabilizing the country.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Jihad Hawlader, Bachchu Jomaddar, Mohsin Mridha, and Boni Amin. Others named in the case include Barguna District Chhatra League President Md. Rezaul Karim, along with Sabbir Hossain, Jihad Hang, Karim, Rezaul, Imran Hossain, Saiful Islam Sagar, Saidul, Hasib, Raju, Md. Hridoy, Musa, Md. Rakib, Babu Mridha, Jihad, Bachchu Mira, Halim Molla, Touhid Molla, Boni Amin, Jewel Dafadar, Sohag, and Mohsin Mridha.
