Jointly organized by the Resource Management Department and Entrepreneurs Club of the College of Home Economics, the festival took place at its Azimpur campus.
The ‘Entrepreneurship Festival-2019’ contained a total of 12 stalls with amazing handmade products including stationery items, handicrafts, jewelry and ornaments, lamps and lampshades, a great variety of local and international cuisines, games zone, etc.
All of these unique products have been individually made by the participating students, as part of their first year curriculum. Their festive presentation and business efforts got appreciated by the visitors to the event, and will likely stand them in good stead when it comes to marketing their wares if they do go on to become entrepreneurs.
It is interesting to note the emphasis on entrepreneurship at CHE, a response to the times we live in where almost every skill or ability and its survival is tied to its potential for monetization or earning money
The festival was inaugurated by Professor Ismat Rumina, Principal of the College of Home Economics. Describing her students’ effort behind this festival, she said “The government is highly keen to emphasize the proper establishment of women empowerment which can be achieved through women entrepreneurship- thus we designed the syllabus of our curriculum with more practical tasks like this festival, which we believe can help them to thrive as future entrepreneurs.”
Speaking as the coordinating teacher in this festival, Assistant Professor Dr Shamshad Khorshed said she is proud that this year’s fest is having direct guidance and supervision from the Entrepreneurs Club, one of the most active organizations on campus.
The same reactions were also reflected in the previous coordinating teacher Professor Selina Akhter and Vice Principal Professor Sonia Begum’s perceptions, regarding the event.
Currently having more than 400 members, the Entrepreneurs Club of the College of Home Economics was established by the students of the 2015-16 batch. From that year, the club started to guide and help the first year students for successful arrangement of homeground events like today.
Labeling this whole festivity as a beautiful and jovial collaboration between the senior and junior learners, Entrepreneurship Club’s General Secretary Tanjila Tahsin said “Our festival is not only about collecting marks through profit-making activities- rather it is a festive occasion where our girls can portray their true caliber as future entrepreneurs.”
The annual event started at 9:30 am and continued till 2.30 pm. With a hope to return as a much broader festival in 2020, this year’s event ended with good vibes and cheerful celebration of up and coming women entrepreneurs.
