The expectations of the Kurigram residents will be fulfilled on Tuesday after the resumption of the commuter train services on Kurigram-Ramna railway in the district, thanks to the government’s effective steps.
The commuter train services on the route remained suspended since March 2020 due to the Covid outbreak across the country, causing immense sufferings to the commuters.
To minimise the people’s sufferings, Bangladesh Railway has taken a decision to resume commuter train services on the Kurigram-Ramna railway on Tuesday, said Khalidunnesa, divisional traffic superintendent of Bangladesh Railway, Lalmonirhat.
“We have taken all preparations to resume the train services on the route Tuesday but no schedule of train service is yet finalized. The authorities concerned will take a final decision on it soon after discussing with different departments of the Railway,” he said.
Besides, the rail track will be renovated in phases after the resumption of train services, he added.
The commuter train services on the route remained suspended since March 2020 due to flood and Covid outbreak across the country. Though the government has restored train services on different routes, it remained suspended, irking local people.
The residents of the district also went on a number of movements during this period but the railway authorities kept it suspend citing a crisis of manpower, engines and locomasters.
According to the authorities concerned the commuter train will reach Kurigram from Lalmonirhat via Kaunia in the afternoon.
Besides, the local people also demanded to extend the train services to Parbatipur Railway Junction and enhance the railway connectivity with greater Dinajpur district and Rajshahi division.
