Three people including a policeman died in separate road accidents in Sylhet and Habiganj districts on Sunday.
Masudul Amin, officer-in-charge of Golapganj Model Police Station, said a speeding bus crashed into cop Abul Hossain's motorbike in front of Dreamland Park in the upazila, leaving him dead on the spot. The constable, aged 27, came to his village home on leave.
Masudul Amin said they recovered the body and sent it to Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal actions will be taken in this regard.
In Habiganj, two more people died and other three were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-run autorickshaw on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Nabiganj upazila of the district in the afternoon.
The victims were Akib Mia, 62, and Surchan Begum, 36, both hailing from Mithamoin upazila of Kishoreganj.
Parimal Chandra Dev, officer-in-charge of Sherpur Highway Police Station, said the head-on collision between the truck and the autorickshaw carrying the five left two dead on the spot and three others injured in Aushkandi Mithapur under the upazila in the afternoon.
The injured were sent to Nabiganj Upazila Health Complex, said the OC.
Vehicular movement on the highway remained suspended for around one hour following the accident, he added.
