Exactly half, or 32 of the positives are concentrated in just one district of Rajshahi division -Naogaon.
With today’s haul, the total number of infected people in the district nearly trebled to reach 49, Deputy Civil Surgeon of Naogaon told reporters in the evening.
The health official said they got samples of 106 people tested at the National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Center in Dhaka and found 32 samples positive for Covid-19.
Of the newly identified patients, three are physicians and four are healthcare workers.
That trend carried into Sylhet, where five healthcare workers of Sylhet Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital were found infected with coronavirus.
Shushanta Kumar Mohapatra, a resident medical officer of the hospital, made the disclosure on Tuesday night, adding that another healthcare worker had tested positive earlier.
The hospital has been turned into a ‘dedicated’ hospital for the treatment of covid-19 patients.
In Faridpur, three people tested positive for the novel coronavirus at Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.
An official of the hospital confirmed the development in the evening, saying two of the patients are female.
Md Siddiqur Rahman, civil surgeon of the district, said the residences of the three were put under lockdown. “We made necessary arrangements to treat them at the FMCH,” he added.
The Habiganj district reported 13 fresh cases on Tuesday, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the district to 88.
Dr Mokhlesur Rahman Ujjal, deputy civil surgeon of the district, made the disclosure at noon.
The OC of Chunarughat Police Station and four other policemen were among the newly identified patients, he added.
In Cumilla, five more people tested positive for coronavirus, taking the number of patients to 98.
Civil Surgeon Dr Niyatuzzaman disclosed the development in the afternoon.
In Chandpur, six more people were diagnosed with Covid-19 today.
Civil Surgeon Dr Md Shakhawat Ullah said the number of patients rose to 28 including the latest ones.
Of the newly identified patients, three are from Sadar upazila, two from Hajiganj and one from Haimchar, he added.
All patients identified after 8am on each day are counted as part of the collated total figure announced by DGHS the following day at its scheduled to be announced on Wednesday afternoon in Dhaka.
Bangladesh confirmed the highest number of coronavirus cases on Tuesday as 786 people tested positive in the 24 hours till 8am.
In total, the country has so far recorded 10,929 coronavirus cases and 183 deaths.

The virus, first reported in China in December last year, has infected over 3.5 million people and killed 251,562 in 187 countries, according to Johns Hopkins University’s Coronavirus Resource Center, as of Tuesday night in Bangladesh.
