The dairy farmers on Sunday spilled 3000 liters of milk on the highway as they have been witnessing increasing losses due to persistent price hike of animal feed in the district.
Chattogram Dairy Farms Association launched the protest on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway in Karnafuli area of the city in the afternoon.
They also formed a human chain and protest rally.
Farm leaders said the price of animal feed hiked up by Tk 200 to Tk 300 amid the pandemic, while per liter milk price went down by Tk 8 to Tk 10.
They are currently selling milk at Tk 45 to Tk 50 per liter which is inflicting great losses on their entire sector, protesters said.
They demanded Tk 60 per liter milk, and proper distribution fixing transportation cost at Tk 3.
The supply of milk at sweet shops will remain suspended until their demands are met, they said.
