Former general secretary of Awami League’s greater Cumilla unit, as well as an erstwhile member of the provincial assembly Advocate Ahmed Ali, passed away early Saturday.
Ahmed Ali, one of those who did the ‘Double’ for Bangladesh (Language Movement activist + Freedom Fighter/organizer), breathed his last around 1:47am at the Apollo Hospital in Dhaka. He was 97.
He was buried at the Racecourse Graveyard in Cumilla after his first Namaz-E-Janaza in Brahmanbaria and second Janaza at Cumilla’s Town Hall Ground.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death.
In a condolence message, the Prime Minister said that the death of Liberation War organiser and political leader like Ahmed Ali is a great loss to the country and the nation.
She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and extended her sympathies to the bereaved family members.
