Cyclone centers three times more than required are being set up in compliance with health guidelines keeping in mind the coronavirus situation to provide shelter to coastal people if Cyclone Yash hits Bangladesh.
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Mohammad Enamur Rahman revealed the matter at an evening briefing in the conference room of the ministry.
The minister said that they are aiming to bring all the people in need of shelters to the cyclone centers in an attempt to keep the mortality rate zero if the cyclone hits Bangladesh.
Dr Enamur also said that the state of the cyclone would be clear after May 23, but everyone concerned has been instructed to take necessary preparations within this time.
The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra were asked to hoist distant Cautionary Signal 1 on Friday.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said a low pressure area has formed over the East Central Bay and adjoining area.
“It is likely to intensify into a depression and further into a Deep Depression and then into a Cyclonic Storm,” the Met Office bulletin said.
