The case was shifted to the DB on Tuesday, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman.
Victim’s father Barkatullah filed the case accusing 19 people, including arrested 10 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), on Monday evening.
Abrar, 21, a student Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), was found dead on the staircase of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university early Monday.
Some BCL leaders beat him at room-2011 of the dormitory on Sunday night suspecting his link to Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Police arrested the 10 BCL leaders and activists over the killing after scrutinising the video footage.
They are BCL Buet unit general secretary Mehedi Hasan Russel, its vice-president Muhtasim Fuad, organising secretary Mehedi Hasan Robin, information and research secretary Anik Sarkar, sports secretary Meftahul Islam, literature secretary Moniruzzaman Monir, deputy social welfare secretary Efti Mosharraf Sokal, deputy office secretary Mostoba Rafid and two members Muntasir Al Jami and Ehtemamul Rabbi.
They were put on a five-day remand by a court here on Tuesday over the murder.
On Monday, BCL expelled 11 leaders and activists of its Buet unit, including the arrestees, for their involvement in the murder of Abrar Fahad.
