At least three people, including an unidentified rickshaw puller, were killed during clashes between police and quota protesters in the capital’s Jatrabari and Azimpur areas on Thursday.
With these three fatalities, the death toll in Dhaka city has risen to four.
Sources at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) reported that the unidentified rickshaw puller (around 35 year old) sustained rubber bullet injuries to his head in Jatrabari during the afternoon clash. The critically injured man was rushed to DMCH, where he was pronounced dead at around 5:30 pm.
Another victim, identified as Nazmul, aged around 28, was brought to DMCH from Rayerbagh in Jatrabari. He was pronounced dead at approximately 7:00 pm.
Muhammad Ali, a 20-year-old who suffered fatal head injuries in Azimpur, was taken to DMCH at 7:30 pm. After examination, the duty doctor declared him dead.
DMCH police camp in-charge Bachhu Mia confirmed the deaths, saying, The bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue for post-mortem.
Earlier in the day, a student of United International University was killed, and over 200 other students from various universities were injured, including one critically, in clashes with police over quota reform protests in Badda.
Dr. Arman, an emergency medical officer at AMZ Hospital in Badda, reported that the student was brought in dead with multiple bullet injuries to his chest.
