Police seized 357 kgs of OMS rice and arrested a dealer from Gopalpur village in Shahzadpur upazila on Sunday night.

The arrestee was identified as Alauddin Hossain, son of Moksed Ali of the village.

Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive at the house of Abu Bakar Mollah, neighbour of Alauddin, and recovered 357 kgs of rice meant for distribution among poor people, said Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shahzadpur Police Station.

After interrogation, police came to know that the rice was kept there as per the order of Alauddin.

Later, police arrested Alauddin from his house. A case was filed in this connection.

Shah Mohammad Shamsuzzoha, upazila nirbahi officer, said the dealer was sent to jail on Monday and action will be taken in this regard after investigation.
