The government has proposed an allocation of Tk 42,497 crore for the Defence Ministry in the national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, an increase of Tk 1,646 crore from the previous fiscal year.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury announced the proposed allocation while presenting the national budget in Parliament on Thursday.
The Defence Ministry was allocated Tk 40,851 crore in the budget for FY2025-26.

In addition, the finance minister proposed Tk 44 crore for the Armed Forces Division in FY2026-27, slightly lower than the Tk 47 crore allocated in the previous fiscal year.
The proposed allocation for the Defence Ministry marks a 4.03 percent increase over the FY2025-26 budget, reflecting the government's continued commitment to strengthening the country's defence capabilities and military preparedness.
By contrast, the allocation for the Armed Forces Division has been reduced by Tk 3 crore, or about 6.4 percent, compared to the outgoing fiscal year.
The detailed expenditure plans for the Defence Ministry and the Armed Forces Division are expected to be outlined in the budget documents to be placed before Parliament for discussion and approval.
