“The demand is totally illogical”, said the teachers of the Population Science and Human Resource Development Department at a press conference held at Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose academic building at the campus on Saturday.
Md Riyad Uddin Papon, a final year student of the department, told UNB that according to the PSC syllabus, the course they study is 95 per cent similar to Applied Statistics department courses.
The department chairman Prof Md Nazrul Mondol told newsmen at a press conference that the syllabus of this department match only 20.3 percent with the syllabus of Applied Statistics department 2019-20 session of Dhaka University and that’s why there is no possibility of renaming the department.
The students of Rajshahi University Population Science and Human Resource Development department, who went fast unto death program on Wednesday demanding renaming of their department Applied Statistics, postponed their hunger strike early Saturday till Monday.
The demonstrating students told UNB that they postponed their strike until Monday as Vice Chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan assured to hold meeting with them regarding their demand on Monday.
