Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will cast her vote in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls at Dhaka City College centre Saturday morning.
“The Prime Minister will cast her vote at Dhaka City College centre at Dhanmondi around 8am,” PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said.
Polling in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) will be held from 8am to 4pm without any break to elect mayors and councilors.
Awami League mayoral candidate in DSCC, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, will cast his vote at Dr Malika College in Dhanmondi.
The party’s mayoral candidate in the north, Atiqul Islam, will vote at Nawab Habibullah Model School and College in Uttara Model Town area.
BNP’s DSCC mayoral candidate Ishraque Hossain will cast his vote at Shahid Shahjahan Government Primary school in Gopibag area. Its DNCC mayoral candidate Tabith Awal will exercise his franchise at Manarat Dhaka International School and College in Gulshan area.
Thirteen aspirants – six in Dhaka north and seven in the south – are vying for the posts of mayor.
The entire election will be held using electronic voting machines (EVMs) instead of traditional ballot papers and two army personnel will be there at every polling station to safeguard the voting machines.
Some 5.45 million voters in the two city corporations will have the opportunity to exercise their franchise.
The last elections to the city corporations were held on April 28, 2015.
