Dhaka, July 31 (UNB) — A court here on Wednesday denied the bail petition of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman in a corruption case.
Dhaka Senior Special Judges' Court Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order after hearing of the case on accumulation of illegal wealth and money laundering.
Mizanur’s lawyer Ahasanul Haque Samaji appealed for the bail on July 24.
ACC Director Monzur Morshed filed the case against Mizan, his wife Sohelia Anar Ratna, nephew Sub-Inspector Mahmudul Hasan and younger brother Mahabubur Rahman on June 24.
On May 3 last year, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) interrogated the DIG in connection with accumulation of illegal wealth.
DIG Mizan, former additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, was withdrawn on January 9 last year after being accused of threatening a female news presenter of a private television channel.
He was suspended on June 25 this year.
