Acting Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mohammad Sarwar on Thursday directed police officials to remain on highest alert to maintain law and order and prevent crimes ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
He instructed all officers concerned to stay vigilant so that no crime could take place and asked them to place special emphasis on arresting criminals involved in counterfeit currency, drugging gangs, ointment gangs and snatching.

The acting commissioner issued the directives while addressing senior police officials at the monthly crime review meeting for April 2026 held at the DMP headquarters conference room.
Sarwar also said traffic police must perform their duties properly to prevent traffic congestion around cattle markets.
He asked police personnel to enhance vigilance at launch terminals, bus terminals and railway stations and strengthen foot patrols across the city. The acting commissioner also instructed officers to conduct drives against narcotics and arrest warrant-listed accused persons.
Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Mohammad Nazrul Islam said the overall law and order situation in Dhaka metropolis remains stable at present and urged all officers to remain alert to maintain the stability.
At the meeting, the DMP acting commissioner awarded police officials of different ranks in recognition of their good performance in maintaining law and order, controlling crime and ensuring public safety in Dhaka metropolis during April.
Senior police officers of the DMP headquarters, deputy commissioners, additional deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners, officers-in-charge of all police stations and officials of different ranks were present at the meeting.
