Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has imposed a fine of Tk 5.83 lakh in 16 cases after finding Aedes larvae in several establishments on the fifth day of a month-long special mosquito eradication drive.
Ten other regular cases have also been registered, according to a press release.
Regional executive officers and executive magistrates conducted simultaneous raids in all ten areas of DNCC. The drive will be carried out throughout July.
Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Md Zulkar Nayan conducted the drive in Mohakhali and Banani areas under Zone-3. During the drive into houses, commercial buildings, under-construction buildings, vacant plots, and drains, three building owners were fined Tk 2.55 lakh in three cases after finding Aedes mosquito larvae in their establishments.
A total of Tk 50,000 was collected in three cases after Aedes larvae were found in three buildings during drives in Uttara, Khilkhet, and Kaola areas under Zones 1 and 7. Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Sazia Afrin and Executive Magistrate Md Mahbub Hasan conducted the drive.
Besides, the assistant health officers went to different places in the 10 areas of the DNCC, distributed leaflets, and made the public aware of dengue control. Members of the Bangladesh Scouts and BNCC also joined the DNCC staff to conduct awareness activities to control dengue.
The country has been experiencing a massive rise in Dengue cases in the past few days. Since January of this year, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has recorded 16,143 dengue cases and 88 deaths across the country.
