While many parts of the country have been reeling from floods triggered by days of heavy monsoon rain and upstream runoff, Dhaka had largely escaped the worst of the downpours until Friday.

A spell of heavy rain around noon, however, inundated several parts of the capital, causing waterlogging and disrupting daily life.

The accumulated rainwater submerged roads in low-lying areas, slowing traffic and forcing commuters and pedestrians to wade through ankle- to knee-deep water.

Vehicles were also seen moving at a snail's pace through waterlogged streets.
The photos were taken from Motijheel and Paltan areas after Jummah prayers.
