The government has appointed Dr Mohammad Monirul Islam as the next Ambassador of Bangladesh to Uzbekistan.
He will replace Ambassador Md. Zahangir Alam in this capacity, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday.

A career diplomat, Monirul Islam belongs to the 20th batch of BCS (Foreign Affairs) Cadre.
Joining the Foreign Service in 2001, he is now serving as the Consul General of Bangladesh in New York.
Before that, he was serving as the Consul General of Bangladesh in Istanbul.
In his diplomatic career, he also served in various capacities in Bangladesh missions in Tokyo and New Delhi.

At Headquarters, he held some important positions including the Director General of the Multilateral Economic Affairs Wing.
Born in Dhaka, Dr Islam did his bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (B-Pharm) from the University of Dhaka with a distinction of First Class First.
He completed Master’s in the same discipline (M-Pharm) from the same institution securing First Class First position.

He also obtained a master’s in political science and obtained a Ph.D in International Relations from India.
