Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin on Wednesday said the Election Commission remains committed to playing an impartial role to deliver a fair, neutral and credible election.

“We stay committed to our promise. We’re committed to carry out our responsibility neutrality… So, we need your cooperation to perform neutrality and nicely,” he said while addressing a pre-election dialogue at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP and five other political parties joined the discussion which began at 2:00am with the CEC in the chair.

A three-member BNP delegation, led by its Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, participated in the pre-election dialogue.

The CEC said the Chief Adviser (Prof Muhammad Yunus) has been talking about the arrangement of a festive and historic election this time. 

“We, the government and the Election Commission, all are pledge-bound to deliver a nice, acceptable and neutral election,” he said.

Nasir Uddin urged the political parties and political leaders to play a role to bring the voters to the polling stations in the upcoming national election as the country’s voters became reluctant to vote, which was  in the last two or three elections.

“Since you’ve direct influence on the grassroots voters… we would like to expect you to play a role in motivating them to come to the polling stations,” he said, adding that the EC will also do whatever necessary on their part to conduct campaigns to bring the voters to the polling station.

“If an expected percentage of voters come to the polling stations, no one can dare to occupy the polling centres and the balloting boxes or engage in election irregularities,” he said.

The CEC said the compliance with this code of conduct or its implementation largely depends on the cooperation from political parties and the candidates during the election.

“You are the main players as you and your representatives will actually participate in the election. So, cooperation from you is very essential here. I would like to seek you to extend this cooperation,” Nasir Uddin said.

The other political parties that attended the afternoon session are Bangladesh Jatiya Party-BJP, Gonaodhikar Parishad, Nagorik Oikya, Bangladesh Republican Party-BRP and Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-Basad Marxist.

Election Commissioners Tahmida Ahmad, Anwarul Islam Sarker and Brig Gen (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah were present in the discussion moderated by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

Earlier in the morning, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam, National Citizen Party (NCP) and other political parties joined a separate dialogue arranged by the EC.

The Election Commission opened its pre-election dialogue with registered political parties on November 13 last and has already held talks with some 40 parties out of 55 registered parties (excluding the Awami League whose registration remains suspended).

Motivate voters to go to polling stations: CEC to political leaders

The ongoing dialogue is considered as the last major task before the announcement of the national election schedule in early December.

In late September 2025, the Commission opened a series of electoral dialogues with different stakeholders amid talks with civil society representatives on September 28.

Later, the EC held separate dialogues with the representatives of teachers, senior journalists from different media outlets, election experts and election observers.
