Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Rabab Fatima has said the strong determination and unflinching commitment of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and timely action, helped them to launch a social movement to fight the menace of terrorism.
Ambassador Rabab Fatima made the remarks while speaking at the UN Security Council's Special Meeting on the 20th Anniversary of Security Council Resolution 1373 and the establishment of the Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Thursday.
At the meeting, Bangladesh expressed solidarity with all victims of terrorism of the 9/11 terrorist attack and other attacks globally.
Reiterating the country's zero-tolerance policy against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, Fatima said, "Bangladesh is a party to all international counter-terrorism instruments."
She highlighted the various national legislative and policy actions of the current government under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina in curbing terrorism, violent extremism, terrorist financing and related menaces.
About the effective implementation of resolution 1373, the ambassador stressed the need to address the capacity gaps, effective cross-border cooperation at all levels, seamless exchange of operational information among nations, and address the root causes of terrorism and violent extremism.
She called for robust collaboration between the UN Security Council and the Member States in this regard.
