The familiar rush of Eid homebound travel has begun as people leave the capital ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, but this year’s journey started amid heavy rain in Dhaka and travellers' pressure across major transport terminals.
Despite scorching heat in previous days, much-awaited rainfall arrived on Monday (May 25), bringing relief to some travellers but also adding to the hardship of those heading home under wet and uncomfortable conditions. Many passengers were seen setting out for their destinations across the country braving the rain.
The final working day before the holiday, Sunday (May 24), saw a gradual exodus from the capital in the afternoon as people began leaving early to avoid congestion. With the government’s official seven-day holiday starting Monday, passenger flow increased across key
transport hubs in Dhaka.
Heavy crowds were reported at Kamalapur Railway Station, Sadarghat Launch Terminal, and the city’s major bus terminals in Gabtoli, Mohakhali and Sayedabad as thousands of people travelled to their village homes.
At the same time, the launch terminal at Sadarghat witnessed a relatively moderate crowd compared to expectations, as many passengers are believed to have left the capital earlier than usual to avoid last-minute rush.
Transport operators and authorities expect passenger pressure to rise further in the coming days as more people leave Dhaka for their Eid celebrations.
