Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday asked the government officials to make sure that the Monga - a seasonal famine-like stuation- does not hit the northern region again.
"Work to ensure that Monga doest not return to the region again," she said while holding a meeting with government officials of Rangpur division at the Circuit House during a daylong visit.

Hasina asked the officials concerned to continue the efforts taken by the government for socio-economic upliftment of the people of the region.
She told the government officials to pay attention to generate innovative ideas so that the masses can march ahead in every sector including education and healthcare.
The prime minister said in the past Rangpur region was known as Monga belt.
"But, the Monga has disappeared from Rangpur region due to the government efforts in the last 14 years and a half. We have been able to take measures to ensure that Monga is gone forever," she said.
The PM thanked the government officials for their tireless efforts to implement various development projects.

"We can give you policy, plan and money and other required things for implementing any scheme. But, you have to execute the projects staying at grassroots. So, everything is in your hand," she said.
