A pre-election observation team of the European Union (EU) on Monday sat in a meeting with the officials of the Election Commission to discuss the preparation and atmosphere ahead of the national election planned to be held in early February 2026.
The eight-member EU team, headed by Riccardo Chellery, (senior election expert) went to the Nirbachan Bhaban and held a meeting with a team of four EC officials, led by a joint secretary in the afternoon.
Later, the EU election expert team held another meeting with election commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah at Nirbachan Bhaban.
During the meeting, the visiting EU election expert team focused on the preparations for the 13th parliamentary election, the country’s overall political environment ahead of the election, and the measures that are being taken to ensure a free and fair election, said EC officials.
The visiting expert team will report to the EU about the pre-election preparation, environment and measures being taken to ensure a free and fair election in early February 2026.
Following the report, the EU will take decision over sending its observers to watch the 13th parliamentary election.
