The Europe–Asia Relations programme scheduled to be held in New Delhi on Saturday evening was cancelled following what organisers described as unexplained interventions by Delhi Police.
The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia (FCC South Asia), Hand in Hand Foundation and the organising partners regretted the cancellation of the programme, which was scheduled for August 29, according to a media release.
“Due to unexplained interventions by Delhi Police against the programme, the FCC South Asia has been unable to host the scheduled function,” the organisers said.
The decision was communicated at short notice and was beyond the control of the organisers and FCC South Asia, they said.
“We therefore sincerely regret any inconvenience caused to our invited speakers, diplomats, media representatives, academics, civil society representatives, and other participants who had planned to attend,” the organisers said.
The programme was aimed at promoting dialogue on Europe–Asia relations and related issues.
The organisers said they remain committed to promoting Europe–Asia relations, peace, prosperity, sustainable development, human rights and constructive international dialogue.
They expressed hope that the programme would be organised at an appropriate future date and said further details would be communicated in due course.
The organisers also thanked participants, partners, members of the media and supporters for their understanding and cooperation.
