The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested a former central leader of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from West Agargaon of the capital on Wednesday morning.
The arrestee was identified as Shah Mostafa Alamgir, 55.
A team of DB Gulshan Division conducted an operation in the area around 7:00am and arrested Alamgir, said Md Akthar Hossain, DMP deputy commissioner (Media and Public Relations).
According to the DB, Alamgir was the social welfare secretary and organising secretary of the BCL central committee. He also served as president of the Kabi Jasimuddin Hall unit of BCL at Dhaka University.
He was also a joint secretary of the Publicity and Publication Sub-committee of Awami League, whose activities are banned, and a member of the Netrokona district Awami League.
The DB claimed that Alamgir had been involved in various activities in support of the AL in recent times with the aim of creating instability in the country.
