The namaz-e-janaza of former BNP MP and veteran politician GM Fazlul Haque was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday.
The namaz-e-janaza took place at 12:00pm led by Senior Imam of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, Muhammad Saifullah.
Earlier, his son spoke on behalf of the family seeking prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram offered prayers for the deceased and expressed condolences to the bereaved family members and the people of Chandpur.
He described Fazlul Haque as a man of integrity who devoted himself to the service of the country.
The Speaker later placed a wreath on the coffin as a mark of respect.
Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni and Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu also paid their respects by placing wreaths on the coffin.
Following the tribute, special prayers and munajat were offered for the salvation of the departed soul.
Members of Parliament, the Sergeant-at-Arms, and officials and staff of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, among others, attended the janaza.
Fazlul Haque passed away on Tuesday evening at a private hospital in the capital at the age of 78.
He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and a host of well-wishers.
He was elected MP from Chandpur-3 constituency in the 7th and 8th Jatiya Sangsad elections held in 1996 and 2001 as a candidate of the BNP.
