A former leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the BNP, was killed as a sand-laden truck rammed into his motorbike in Kushtia Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Nahidul Islam Rupal, 32, son of Ayub Islam of Dr Abul Kashem Lane in the district headquarters and former joint secretary of Kushtia Government College JCD.
He ran a mobile accessories shop in the city along with other businesses.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station Mosharraf Hossain said Nahidul was returning to the district town from Kumarkhali upazila after completing his personal job.
The truck crashed into his bike from behind in Lahini Bouttala area of the upazila around 5:30pm, leaving him dead on the spot, he said.

The body was sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC said, adding that legal action will be taken accordingly in this regard.
The trucker and his helper managed to escape leaving the vehicle following the accident, the police official said.
