A Dhaka court on Friday placed former army officer Major General Ziaul Ahsan on an eight-day remand in a case filed over the death of a shop employee Shahjahan Ali in Dhaka's New Market area on July 16.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arfatul Rakib gave the order this afternoon following the 10-day remand appeal.
Earlier, Sajib Mia, sub-inspector of New Market Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court with the remand appeal around 4:50pm.
On behalf of Ziaul Ahsan, his sister advocate Nazneen Nahar sought bail along with cancellation of the remand prayer.
Ziaul, former director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), was arrested late last night from Dhaka’s Khilkhet area.
Later, he was shown arrested in a case at New Market police station.
The case was filed following the complaint lodged by the victim's mother Ayesha Begum, 45, on July 16.
