A ferry got stranded in a hidden shoal at Lauhajong turning point on Wednesday night due to navigability problem. The ferry was removed after seven-hour efforts on Thursday.
The BIWTC authorities stopped the movement of ferries on the river route at Lauhajong in Munshigaj at 11:55 pm on Wednesday resumed it on Thursday morning on a limited scale.
BIWTC assistant managing director Md Nasiruddin said silt is being removed with five dredgers to improve navigability.
“An alternative channel has been opened at Lauhajang turning point to ease ferry movement. Nine ferries out of 18 started operation after the opening of the channel,” he said.
TI of Mawa Traffic Zone Hilal Uddin said more than one hundred vehicles remained stranded at the ghat for the last few days. But suspension of ferry movement on Wednesday night aggravated the traffic congestion,causing immense sufferings to the passengers.
