Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended ferry services for all vehicles and passengers from Friday, except for goods-laden vehicles and ambulances obeying health protocols.
The decision was made as the Coronavirus is spreading in Bangladesh faster than ever.

On Monday, the government extended the ongoing ‘stringent’ lockdown restrictions by another week to break the chain of transmission of Covid-19 amid the Delta variant wreaking havoc in the country.

The restrictions will continue until the midnight of 14 July, unless extended again.
