State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has directed the field administration to strengthen coordination in ensuring law and order, controlling corruption and drugs, and ensuring good governance, transparency and accountability in Kurigram, Gaibandha and Rangpur districts.
“Coordination among different departments of the field administration must be strengthened to ensure overall development and public welfare in the districts,” he said.
He gave the directives at a meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday.
He also directed officials to inform him immediately of any emergency or issue involving public interest.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification on August 27 assigning the state minister responsibility for coordinating and supervising government activities in the three districts, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
The meeting discussed the overall situation concerning law and order, drug and gambling control, river erosion, electricity, healthcare, and the supply of food and fertilisers, among other public-interest issues.
The state minister heard the officials attending the meeting and gave necessary directives on various issues.
Mir Shahe Alam advised the deputy commissioners to regularly visit all upazilas in their respective districts.
He also directed that representatives from neighbouring Jamalpur and Lalmonirhat districts be included in law-and-order meetings in Kurigram to strengthen coordination.
The meeting was informed that regular drives are being conducted to control drugs alongside community policing and social awareness programmes involving mosques, temples, educational institutions and local prominent people.
Legal action is also being taken through filing regular cases under the new Gambling Prevention Act, 2026, and conducting mobile courts when necessary, the meeting was told. The police department is actively working in this regard.
The meeting also stressed raising public awareness to prevent the rapid spread of rumours and ensuring the quick dissemination of accurate information.
Participants emphasised the need to identify local problems, including river erosion, at the earliest and take prompt measures to address them.
The meeting also discussed making canal excavation programmes more effective. It also reviewed the fertiliser supply situation in detail.
The state minister instructed officials to remain vigilant so that farmers receive fertiliser on time and do not face an artificial crisis.
He advised district and upazila committees to ensure the prompt appointment of dealers against vacant posts in line with the Integrated Policy on Fertiliser Dealer Appointment and Distribution, 2026.
The state minister also stressed the importance of cleanliness activities in the districts.
He urged local administration, public representatives and relevant agencies to be more responsible and vigilant in waste management and maintaining cleanliness.
“I believe that if we all work in a coordinated manner, development activities in the districts can be accelerated further,” Mir Shahe Alam said.
Emphasising the need to observe the problems and prospects of people at the grassroots firsthand, he said he would visit the concerned districts to inspect various development activities and the actual situation of public services.
