A fire broke out at a moving ambulance on the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj district on Monday.
The fire broke out at the Magura-bound ambulance carrying four people including a patient, due to technical glitch over Kuchiamora Bridge on the expressway in the afternoon, said deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service, Mohamamd Shafiqul Islam.
All the passengers and drivers of the ambulance escaped unhurt as they managed to get out from the microbus as soon as the fire broke out, he said.
Two firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after about an hour, he added.
All medical equipment and other belongings inside the ambulance were completely destroyed in the blaze.
Preliminary, it is suspected that the fire might have originated from a technical fault in the ambulance’s gas line. However, an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause, said Shafiqul Islam.
Vehicular movement on the Mawa-bound lane remained disrupted for about an hour following the incident.
