Four members of a family from Manirampur upazila in Jashore, who died in a devastating fire at TUPTUP Resto & Resort on Inani Beach in Cox’s Bazar, were buried at their village home on Wednesday.
After a namaz-e-janaz at Badhaghata Government Primary School ground at 3pm, Nahidur Rahman Tuhin, 41, his wife Afsana Tanji, 36, and their two daughters Ruzaina Inaya, 7, and Sunaina Ihana, 3, were laid to rest in four adjacent graves at their family graveyard in Mohanpur village.
Earlier, their bodies were brought to their village home from Cox’s Bazar by ambulance around 7am, triggering an outpouring of grief among relatives and local residents, while thousands of people gathered at the house to pay their last respects.
Family sources said Tuhin worked as an official at a private company, Grand Power Limited, in Dhaka’s Shyamoli area. He lived with his family in Mirpur due to his job.
He went to Cox’s Bazar on October 17 with his wife and two daughters for a vacation. The family checked in at the seaside TUPTUP Resto & Resort the following day.
A devastating fire broke out at the resort on the morning of October 18, leaving all four family members, along other seven other people, dead.
Tuhin’s cousin Khalid Hossain said as they were burned beyond recognition, their identities were ascertained through DNA tests.
While grieving the loss of his family members, Tuhin’s father Matiar Rahman urged the authorities to prevent the construction of unsafe resorts along the seashore.
