Police arrested four members of an alleged theft gang from different parts of Faridpur district in connection with the theft of valuables from a Kali temple in Faridpur district town on Sunday.
The identities of the arrestees could not be known immediately.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted drives in Alfadanga and Boalmari upazilas of the district and arrested them, said Shahrier Mohammad Miazi, superintendent of Faridpur Police, while speaking at a press briefing at noon.
Following interrogation, police also recovered a 20-kg touchstone idol of Hindu goddesses Kali, five bhoris of gold ornaments, 30 bhoris of silver ornaments and six brass idols worth around Tk 1 crore, he said.
A gang of thieves stole the valuables, including the idol of Hindu goddesses Kali, after breaking open the lock of the temple, located near Faridpur Sadar Hospital, on the night of September 19.
