A large amount of cash and gold ornaments have been stolen allegedly from the storeroom of the Natore court after miscreants broke its lock sometime during Thursday night, police said Friday.
Natore Superintendent of Police (SP) Amzad Hossain, after visiting the scene, said an organised gang of thieves entered the court police office by cutting the grill of a window. They then broke into the storeroom, looted the cash and gold ornaments stored as evidence, and fled the scene.
Before committing the theft, the gang disconnected the CCTV system, including the video recorder and its connection, to avoid detection, said the SP.
The incident came to light around 11:30am when court police officials entered the office and discovered the break-in. Upon being informed, senior police officials including the SP rushed to the spot.
Three individuals have been taken into police custody in connection with the incident, SP Amzad said, but their identities have not been disclosed for the sake of the investigation.
Efforts are underway to determine the exact amount of cash and gold ornaments stolen, he added.
Members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) are currently working on the case.
