The Council of Advisers on Thursday in principle approved the draft of Cyber Security (Repeal) Ordinance 2024 in a bid to scrap the draconian law enacted in 2023.
The approval came from a meeting chaired by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus in the city.
Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters at the Foreign Service Academy in the evening on the outcome of the Council of Advisers' meeting.
However, the ICT Division will place the draft ordinance again for the final approval of the council after it is vetted by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division.
Besides, the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry with secretarial and technical support from the ICT Division will present a separate legal framework before the Council of Advisers to ensure safety and security in cyberspace.
Deputy Press Secretaries Apurba Jahangir and Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were also present at the briefing.
