The government on Tuesday decided to procure two crore litres of refined palm olein under the local open tender method.
The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement approved the procurement proposal in a meeting held at the Secretariat with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhur in the chair.
According to the proposal placed before the committee by the Ministry of Commerce, the edible oil will be supplied in two-litre PET bottles.

The total procurement cost has been estimated at Tk 368.90 crore.
Under the proposal, Sonargaon Seeds Crushing Mills Ltd will supply 10 million litres of refined palm olein, while Shabnam Vegetable Oil Industries Limited will supply the remaining 10 million litres.
Palm olein is the liquid fraction derived from separating (fractionating) palm oil, designed to remain liquid at room temperature.
