The High Court has issued a rule questioning the validity of the decision to cancel the press accreditation card of Channel I special correspondent Rizvi Newaz.
A division bench of the High Court, headed by Justice Sashanka Shekhar Sarkar and Justice A.K.M. Rabiul Hasan, issued the rule on Wednesday.
Barristers A.B.M. Hamidul Misbah, Nazia Kabir, and Muatadi Hossain represented the petitioner in court.
Earlier, Rizvi Newaz filed a petition challenging the cancellation of his press accreditation card.
In response, the High Court directed the government and the relevant authorities to show cause why the cancellation of the press accreditation should not be declared illegal.
The plaintiff's lawyer had applied for a stay on the execution of the order; however, the court refrained from issuing an interim order and instead issued the rule.
On November 7, the Ministry of Information canceled the plaintiff's permanent press accreditation card through an order.
